Make it Cosy

Written by: Claire Sugden

Mornings are growing misty, the nights are drawing in, and our minds are turning to one thing and one thing only: cosiness. This is the softest season, and the perfect excuse to hunker down, snuggle up, and make your home your haven. We’ve gathered together some bright ideas below to help you take your space from summer to fall.

Pumpkin patch

We can think of no cosier scene than a little corner teeming with light-up pumpkins. Available in finishes to suit any space – mottled brass, coloured glass, chalky ceramic – an illuminated pumpkin decoration is the way to bring some seasonal softness to your space. Cluster them in groups of three or four in contrasting finishes and colours for a natural, fuss-free look, or opt for sets in matching tones for a calm and contemporary effect.

Cosy rituals

There’s nothing lovelier than coming home from a rainy dog walk or a misty commute and being welcomed by glowing, golden light. By opting for illuminated decorations with built-in timers, you can look forward to a soothing sanctuary every evening – ready for your own cosy ritual.

We love the below for the perfect snuggled-up autumn night:

Light the fire – nothing says ‘cosy’ like a crackling hearth and the scent of woodsmoke. No fire? No problem – a
mantlepiece or coffee table makes a perfect spot for a candlelit focal point. Cluster groups of battery powered candles together on wooden or wicker trays and enjoy the cosy glow.

Boil the kettle – a warm mug and a milky drink is the ideal treat for an autumn evening.

Pick a playlist – we love soothing guitars or gentle piano pieces for the darker days.

Get cosy – grab your softest jumper, your chunkiest knitted throw, and your warmest slippers. If there’s ever a time of year when pyjamas at 5pm are acceptable – even encouraged – it’s surely autumn.

Candlelit corners

Turn off the big light! This season is all about softness, so fill your space with a gentle, soothing glow by grouping LED candles on every surface – the more, the better. Ambience can also be crafted with sparkling micro lights woven into your fall foliage, or autumnal-themed fairy lights strung along mantlepieces, bookshelves or even coat rails, if you’re looking to create a cosy welcome in a porch or entranceway.

Finishing touches

Your sanctuary wouldn’t be complete without…

Blankets, blankets, blankets: you simply can’t have too many.

Books, and more books: snuggle up in a cosy candlelit reading nook and escape into your favourite pages.

Autumnal aromas: for the ultimate in autumn relaxation, add a TruGlow AIR candle diffuser with a seasonal scent like cedar and frankincense.

Aaaand… relax! Put on your fuzziest socks, draw the curtains, and sink into your very own fall sanctuary. And maybe pop the phone on Do Not Disturb: can’t talk, I’m getting cosy.
